On certain days, for certain subjects, a mischievous imp must invade the darkroom, scratch negatives and cause all sorts of trouble. This picture, for example, I shot at least six times, and each one came out badly scratched. The darkroom crew, who could tell one negative from another in the dark, had no explanation.
