Image as puzzle
an excerpt from Still Images in Multimedia
copyright 1996 Mikkel Aaland)
Presenting a challenge to a viewer is another way of grabbing attention. In this example, produced as a Web page by Option X and the author , a still image created by the French multimedia artist Chris Marker was broken up into blocks. When the Web page is accessed, each block appears at random on the screen and the underlying image is not apparent. As viewers click on each block, trying to figure out what to do next, new pages appear teasing them to figure out the puzzle. When the viewer finally opens the browser screen wide enough, the image rearranges itself into the whole. The puzzle was created using Adobes PageMill. (The site can be reached by clicking here.)
